At last year´s Global Motorsports Congress (GMC) in Cologne, Germany, Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director, explained in his role as keynote speaker how the Race Touareg 2 was prepared for its endurance challenges. The second keynote speaker, Wolfgang Appel, Head of Vehicle Technology, Audi, spoke about aerodynamics and chassis development for the Le Mans race.

In addition, a number of papers were presented, including ones by Shiro Hisatsune, Chief Engineer, Honda Racing Development, Dr Peter Schöggl, Deputy VP racing, AVL, and Andreas Bilek, Head Engine Development, KTM Sportmotorcycle.

Andrea Toso, head of research and development, Dallara, focused on "The aerodynamics of commercial racing cars – development costs versus lap time performance". He pointed out that the development of aerodynamics consists of a continuous improvement in downforce, drag, cooling, ride height, aerodynamic sensitivity, engine air intake efficiency and driver comfort. Other speakers on this topic were Kevin Bayless, Oval Track Chassis and Aero Program Manager, GM Racing, Kurt Romberg Chief Aerodynamicist, Hendrick Motorsports, and Sven Person, Technical Director, Go Virtual.

Congress delegates also had the opportunity to visit the GMC partner event Professional Motorsport Expo, which was taking place in Cologne at the same time.
